The successful candidate for the General Engineer/Physical Scientist will provide technical expertise on all aspects of day-to-day operations at one or more, major nuclear or high hazard non-nuclear facilities found throughout the nuclear weapons complex.
What You'll Do
- →As a General Engineer/Physical Scientist (Facility Representative) you will: Conduct walk-through inspections of the facilities and/or operations for the purpose of identifying hazards, incidents of noncompliance with standards and guidelines, and potential problem areas.
- →Ensure that activities are performed within approved safe operating envelopes and in compliance with applicable orders, laws, and regulations.
- →Analyze and evaluate contractor operational and implementation plans including operating systems, processes, formality of operations, material flows, waste streams, instruments/alarms, control room practices, maintenance and construction, quality assurance, safety, health, and environmental activities.
- →Observe, appraise, and evaluate contractor performance through surveillance, field observations, coordination, and evaluation of operational integration of production, environmental compliance, maintenance, utility operations, quality of performance, and industrial, radiological and/or nuclear safety.
- →Ensure contractor management control systems and procedures adhere to NNSA/DOE and national nuclear, radiological and/or industrial safety, and environmental compliance program requirements, policies and practices, and contractual obligations.
- →Ensure that activities are performed within approved safe operating envelopes and in compliance with applicable orders, laws, and regulations.
- →Make contractor and site management aware of issues and concerns and assesses potential solutions to regulatory, technical and/or programmatic issues and requirements.
- →Serve as primary interface between NNSA/DOE management, local and Headquarters, and the contractor, and maintains cognizance of all operational activities, both technical and administrative, in providing technical and policy guidance, direction and interpretation.
- →Make contractor management aware of issues and concerns and negotiates regulatory, technical and/or programmatic issues and requirements with senior Management & Operating (M&O) contractors.
- →Work requires constant and extensive probing and analysis to identify and resolve complex technical and operational problems that involve conflicting points of view, controversial findings, or unprecedented technical issues.
- →Exercise considerable leadership skills in representing the agency in hearings, high level meetings, conferences, and special working groups with M&O contractor executives and subject matter experts, State and Federal regulators (e.g.
- →EPA, NRC, National Academy of Science), and oversight entities (e.g.
- →Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board).
Requirements
- ✓Subject to Random Drug Testing Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- ✓Favorable suitability determination required.
- ✓Must be able to obtain/maintain a Q level Security Clearance.
- ✓You must be a United States Citizen.
