About the Role

These positions are located in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, in the Facility Management Division.

What You'll Do

  • As a Maintenance Worker, you will perform the following duties: Utilizes a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and grounds.
  • Performs minor plumbing repairs of limited difficulty such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures.
  • Performs minor carpentry repairs of limited difficulty to buildings and quarters.
  • Constructs, installs, repairs and replaces doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets.
  • Performs routine maintenance at different sites and visitor facilities, to include cleaning restrooms, and making minor repairs as needed.
  • Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments, reporting discrepancies and damage.
  • Performs painting, masonry work, roofing, welding, or assisting higher grade workers with maintenance of utility systems in the facility.
  • Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites.

Requirements

  • Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
  • You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 nights per month.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
  • Additional Information - Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
