About the Role
The Lexington, KY VAMC is currently seeking a Fee Basis Physician (Interventional Nephrologist). The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and improving systems of health care by participating in programs, following policies, improving utilization of resources and suggesting process changes for clinical programs in the Specialty Care Section. NOTE: The utilization of the Fee Basis appointments are focused on the service to be provided rather than on a specified tour of duty.
What You'll Do
- →Duties may include but are not limited to: Clinical practice, supervising and teaching Nephrology fellows, residents, and medical students.
- →The physician is responsible for providing consultation on various forms of nephrology disease states, both for diagnosis and treatment in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- →The physician is expected to share attending call responsibilities with other Nephrologists in covering some nights, weekends, and holiday calls as needed.
- →The physician will round with the team of fellow(s), resident(s), and medical student(s) as regards inpatient settings.
- →The Nephrology Physician (MD/DO) is administratively responsible to the Chief of Medicine.
- →Clinical oversight is provided by the collaborating physician, Section Chief, Nephrology.
- →The physician, as a member of the department, communicates with other healthcare providers to manage consults and additional services as required.
- →Clinical activities may include but are not limited to, clinical assessment and evaluation - Inpatients and Outpatients.
- →Health care management of assigned veteran patients with acute and chronic illnesses.
- →Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies.
- →Ordering consultation and referrals - Inpatients and Outpatients.
- →Patient follow-up, as appropriate.
- →Health promotion and disease prevention.
- →Patient, family, and staff education and counseling.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued dentification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.

- ✓Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
