About the Role
This vacancy is for a GS-0802-12, Engineering Technician located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, OPERATING LOCATION-SFLC WMEC PROGRAM DEPOT MAINT BRANCH-NORFOLK VA in NORFOLK, Virginia.
What You'll Do
- →You will serve as an Engineering Technician and be responsible for determining the structural, mechanical, and electrical condition of vessels, and taking required action to maintain their long term reliability. .
- →Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
- →Typical work assignments include: Supervising contractual specification and development covering major repairs and maintenance of the vessel class.
- →Preparing detailed audits and cost estimates on repairs for alterations and recommendations and/or alternate suggestions on bid prices.
- →Evaluating maintenance and repair objectives and identifies the most economical and efficient procedures for project accomplishment considering all influences.
- →Coordinating with engineers and naval architects to ensure coverage of all technical area, receives overlapping intra-disciplinary responsibilities concerning attention to design project objectives.
- →Furnishing technical advice to vessel crews and port engineers, peers, and superiors on possible solutions to specific engineering problems.
- →Preparing correspondence, technical reports, estimates, fact sheets, status reports, and schedules as required to complete project developments.
- →Maintaining contact with contractors, manufacturers and unit representatives to maintain equipment manufacturers and suppliers, find sources and technical information on specialized equipment.
- →Evaluating technical data on materials, equipment, drawings, proposals for modifications and additions to review for technical feasibility, adequacy, and compliance with specifications.
- →Assisting in administering maintenance and repair contracts by conferring with contractors and contracting officer's reps to resolve complex and unforeseen issues.
