About the Role

You will serve as an ENGINEER in the MATERIALS & MANUFACTURNG TECH DIV C/61, PLATFORM INTEGRITY DEPT C/60 of CARDEROCK DIV NS. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15.

What You'll Do

  • You will lead and direct a multi-disciplinary engineering team through the entire lifecycle of attritable systems design, from conceptual design to manufacturing, integration, and testing.
  • You will make and justify critical technical and programmatic decisions, often with incomplete information, to maintain project velocity and adapt to emerging test results.
  • You will oversee the selection, implementation, and optimization of high-speed, low-cost manufacturing processes, including large-scale additive manufacturing, CNC routing, spray foaming, and hybrid additive/subtractive methods.
  • You will actively mentor and develop junior and mid-level team members to grow the team's overall technical capabilities, decision-making autonomy, and professional skills.
  • You will serve as a primary technical point of contact for the team and branch manager, coordinating schedules, tasks, challenges, and technical communications with program sponsors, external partners, and senior leadership.
  • You will strategically balance the competing requirements of cost, schedule, performance, and operational risk for attritable platforms in accordance with sponsor and customer requests.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
