About the Role

You will serve as an ENGINEER in the Naval Architecture and Engineering Department of CARDEROCK DIV NS. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-04 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-12 and GS-13. The ND-03 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-09 through the GS-11.

What You'll Do

  • You will be responsible for all aspects of submarine hydrodynamic model testing of new design, construction, and modified submarines.
  • You will serve in a role critical to the execution of the NAVSEA approved Hydro Characterization Process for submarines.
  • You will support and/or lead the overall planning and preparation for model experiments, instrumentation development for experiments, research and development, and data analysis and reporting.
  • You will support and execute the conduct of Hydrodynamic, Ship Control, and special maneuvering model testing and evaluation on all classes of submarines/ships in the US Navy.
  • You will develop and maintain submarine hydrodynamic performance model testing competencies for design, fabrication, data acquisition, data analysis, testing methodology, and instrumentation.
  • You will require the ability to communicate orally and in writing, including technical writing, as well as oral and written presentations.
  • You will require advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, engineering principles, and experimental measurement techniques.

Requirements

  • OPM guidance indicates that there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience.
  • OR Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement and have one year of professional engineering experience that required and was characterized by 1) professional knowledge of engineering, 2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems, and 3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability.
  • My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
