About the Role

You will serve as an Electronics Engineer within the Naval Research Laboratory. This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. What You'll Do

  • →You will serve as the Section Head and recognized expert guiding the development, operation, and enhancement of the Central Target Simulator hardware-in-the-loop facility.
  • →You will analyze customer requirements, missile design trends, and electronic warfare technologies to formulate strategic upgrade plans, technical recommendations, and project specifications.
  • →You will design, develop, and conduct effectiveness evaluations for current and future electronic warfare systems in the radio frequency domain.
  • →You will author technical proposals, reports, and briefings to justify facility improvements and present recommendations to leadership and external stakeholders.
  • →You will operate advanced hardware-in-the-loop simulation systems and general-purpose laboratory equipment—including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers to verify electronic warfare performance.
  • →You will use personal computers and specialized software tools for technical modeling, data analysis, and daily engineering operations.
  • →You will lead, supervise, and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical staff within the Central Target Simulator Operations Section.
  • →You will manage section budgets, resource allocations, and business development initiatives to maintain alignment with broader program goals.
  • →You will oversee routine facility maintenance, enforce safety protocols, and ensure the operational readiness and quality control of laboratory test environments.

Requirements

  • ✓Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • ✓Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • ✓OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

  • ✓Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
  • ✓In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must meet the specialized experience requirement below: Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the NP-03 pay band (GS-13 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent private sector experience.
  • ✓Specialized experience is defined as non-routine professional engineering work that required comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences applicable to the specialty field and the demonstrated ability to apply fundamental engineering concepts, theories, and practices to achieve complex engineering objectives.
  • ✓(Note: Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at the NP-04 / GS-14/15 level.)
