About the Role
This position is located in the Office of the Secretary, Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology in Washington, DC. This position has two major roles, one as the US DOT Statistical Officer and second as the Director, Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
What You'll Do
- →Director of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: 49 USC §6302 legislates the authorities and responsibilities of BTS Director.
- →BTS Director serves as the Secretary's senior advisor on data and statistics and is responsible for directing BTS programs to enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- →In addition, the Director ensures the most cost-effective use of transportation monitoring and is responsible for coordinating the collection of information with the Operating Administrations of the Department and with other Federal agencies.
- →The Director also collects, compiles, analyzes and publishes a comprehensive set of transportation statistics on performance and impacts of the national transportation system.
Requirements
- ✓CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.

- ✓PROBATIONARY PERIOD: Complete a one-year SES probationary period (unless already completed).

- ✓PRESENTATION: Applicants may be asked to prepare and present a presentation, provide a presentation on a scenario-based situation or a similar activity as a part of the applicant evaluation process.
- ✓WRITING SAMPLE: A writing sample may be required.
- ✓If you are qualifying for this position by substituting education or training for experience, submit a copy of your transcripts or equivalent.
- ✓An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
- ✓A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S.
