About the Role

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Digitization Division. The Digital Imaging Technician performs duties associated with the digitization and reformatting of original archival records.

What You'll Do

  • The full performance level of this position is a GS-08 As a Digital Imaging Technician, you will: Operate one or more digitizing devices to capture raster image files of a range of materials, including loose and bound paper documents of all sizes, photographic prints and film, and three-dimensional objects.
  • Export image files through automated image processing applications or may perform basic, predefined image processing to individual files.
  • The technician may insert supplied metadata into software tools or into image files directly.
  • The tasks assigned will range from routine, predictable operations to more complex or nonstandard processes.
  • Perform ongoing checks of their work as well as the work of others to confirm project standards are being maintained.

Requirements

  • The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.
  • One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
  • To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume.
  • A probationary or trial period may be required.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service; the certification will occur no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary/trial period.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9.
  • Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • The work requires some physical exertion including periods of maintaining a stationary position, moving moderately heavy items (such as boxes of records weighing 50 pounds, occasionally more), or otherwise positioning oneself to access objects, equipment, or records located in high and low places.
  • The work is generally sedentary with long periods of working at a computer, but physical exertion is required to move equipment, supplies, and large or awkward original materials.
  • Good manual dexterity is required to handle fragile materials.
  • Excellent natural or corrected vision without color deficiencies must be maintained.
