About the Role

Serves as an alter ego for the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (AIGI), sharing responsibility for carrying out the Office of Investigations' (OI) mission and providing general supervision of the Headquarters (HQ) Operations. Assumes responsibility for all functions of OI HQ Operations.

What You'll Do

  • Serves as an alter ego for the AIGI directing the development or modification of planning, coordination, and control of investigative activities, intelligence efforts, and digital forensics examinations and analysis related to criminal fraud, white-collar crimes, abuse of public trust, and employee integrity and misconduct.
  • Organizes and manages the headquarters' divisions to align with program needs and the Inspector General's priorities and initiatives.
  • Exercises authority to examine all SSA programs and to initiate investigations.
  • Develops plans for investigations led by headquarters' divisions, including resource requirements; manages the full scope of investigations led by headquarters' divisions, including program evaluation; and presents accomplishments and recommendations based on valid and meaningful reporting criteria to the Inspector General, the Commissioner of Social Security, and Congress.
  • Integrates innovative measures and techniques into headquarters' operations to improve detection capabilities and enhance efficiency.
  • Such measures and techniques could relate to information technology, data analytics, or automation, and inter-component collaboration.
  • Develops statements of program goals containing resource requirements for use as guides for the Inspector General and the Commissioner of Social Security for budgetary hearings and congressional committees.
  • Serves as expert witness on program objective requirements and accomplishments at budget hearings and before congressional committees.

Requirements

  • To be considered minimally qualified for this position, candidates must have had responsible professional experience at a senior level (equivalent to the GS-15 in either the General Schedule (GS) or a comparable pay plan).
  • Must be a U.S.
  • Citizen or National.
  • Subject to a 1-year supervisory probationary period (unless already completed).
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • May be subject to pre-employment and random drug tests.
  • Must file a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report OGE-278e within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Age Requirement: This position is covered by the law enforcement officer retirement provisions, 5 U.S.C. 8336 (c) or 5 U.S.C. 8412 (d), and as such is covered by a mandatory age requirement.
  • There is a maximum entry age of the day before your 37th birthday for original appointment into law enforcement officer positions as defined in 5 U.S.C. 8331(20) or 5 U.S.C. 8401(17).
  • This age restriction does not apply to those who have prior Federal service in a covered primary law enforcement position.
  • This position is covered by the special retirement provisions for Federal Law Enforcement Officer (FLEO).
