About the Role

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Planning, Design and Construction (OPDC). The OPDC is responsible for the Smithsonian's physical infrastructure, which comprises over 700 buildings, other structures and leased spaces many which are designated as historic.

What You'll Do

  • The Construction Control Representative serves as a construction representative in the Construction Division providing the Deputy Director and/or Resident Engineer with a wide range of expertise in architectural, construction, and engineering matters.
  • In this position, you will: Coordinate on-site inspections during construction and determine that all foundations, structural, mechanical/electrical, and architectural features are installed in compliance with contract plans and specifications.
  • Compile information necessary to formulate reports, presentations, or documentation for construction engineering assignments.
  • Resolve unusual situations including structural, mechanical, electrical, civil and architectural.
  • Troubleshoot construction problems that are unprecedented or present multidisciplinary consideration and need to be integrated into the design.
  • Direct a team of representatives assigned to a project from inception through completion.
