This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position supports Project Delivery Teams with the acquisition of projects in the planning, design, construction, and/or operational phase and is located in Huntington, WV.
What You'll Do
- →GS-07-11: Performs duties of a wide variety of structural engineering features pertinent to the new construction and/or modification of navigation locks and dams, flood control and local protection projects, seawalls, harbors, and breakwaters.
- →GS-07/09: Processes work in accordance with established procedures and exercises personal initiative in developing designs and completing assignments.
- →GS-07/09: Supports Project Delivery Teams with the acquisition of projects in the planning, design, construction, and/or operational phases.
- →GS-09/11: Prepares sketches showing all necessary dimensions, steel sizes and spacing, and notes required to prepare contract drawings pertaining to structural design.
- →GS-11: Makes comparative cost estimates as an aid in choosing between two or more alternative designs.
- →GS-11: Reviews incoming correspondence, regulations and directives to keep abreast of new policies and procedures.
- →GS-11: Makes field trips to construction sites to observe progress, study problems, obtain data or offer technical assistance to field personnel.
- →GS-11: Determines size and spacing of reinforcing steel, special strength steel, or any other requirements determined from the structural analysis.
- →GS-11: Makes comparative cost estimates as an aid in choosing between two or more alternative designs.
Requirements
- ✓Basic Requirement for all Civil Engineer positions and for basic qualifications at the GS-5 level: (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering.
- ✓The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: Professional registration or licensure - Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
- ✓Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration.
- ✓For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions.
- ✓Written Test - Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination, or any other written test required for professional registration, by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
- ✓Specified academic courses - Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and that included the courses specified in A above.
- ✓The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program.
- ✓Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
