About the Role

You will serve as a Civil Engineer (Structural) in the Planning Design and Construction (PDC) Division of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND ATLANTIC.

What You'll Do

  • You will perform structural analysis and design for major new construction and assess structural condition of facilities to determine needs for repairs and modifications You will analyze and design steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood structures using industry standard analysis and design software.
  • You will perform quality assurance review of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and studies prepared by A/E design firms.
  • You will create documents used for bidding and construction, including specifications, drawings, and cost estimates for structural civil engineering projects.
  • You will complete design drawings and specifications with design and drafting software.
  • You will review plans, designs, and construction phases to ensure civil / structural engineering projects remain in scope.
  • You will work on teams with architects, and other discipline engineers to develop full plans and specifications for construction of major building and waterfront projects.
  • You will advise on solutions to problems encountered during planning, design, and construction phases of projects.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
