This position is located in Region 8. The ideal candidate will support the National Flood Insurance Program and Mitigation Division by reducing long-term risks from hazards. The incumbent manages mapping studies to determine flood and hazard risks, ensures technical credibility, and provides engineering advice to stakeholders. As project manager, the incumbent communicates and integrates mitigation goals and strategies into project plans, objectives, and services delivered.
What You'll Do
- →What will I do in this position if hired?
- →In this position, you will serve as a Civil Engineer.
- →Typical assignments include: Performing and/or developing engineering review of Hazard Mitigation (HMA) and Public Assistance (PA) grant projects to determine the technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness utilizing approved benefit cost analysis (BCA) software or methodology.
- →Coordinating with other organizational elements of the agency, other Federal agencies, State, Local and tribal governments, trade or industry associations, property owners, planner's academia, non-profits or other organizations as necessary to facilitate effective integration of building science principles into policies and programs.
- →Ensuring conformance with FEMA mapping standards and recommending modifications so that hazard maps and flood risk studies provide a sound basis for insurance rating and floodplain management measures while reflecting current policy and legal requirements.
- →Executing a mastery of advanced concepts, theories, principles, practices, and techniques of civil engineering with emphasis on hydrology, hydraulics, statistical analysis, and computer modeling.

- →Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
