About the Role

The Pharmacy Chief ensures quality of pharmacy operations and services provided, education and training of professional staff, and safety and ethical conduct of medical research conducted on patients aligned to the service. The Pharmacy Chief is involved in providing framework for planning, directing, coordinating, providing, and improving health care services responsive to community patient needs and improve patient health outcomes.

  • VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws Administrative Responsibilities Exercises administrative, programmatic, clinical, and academic oversight of all Pharmacy operations at VA Central Ohio Healthcare System.
  • Oversees the procurement, storage and distribution of drugs and supplies.
  • Monitors costs and budget of all pharmacy operations, identifying cost-saving opportunity.
  • Approves medication storage areas throughout VA Central Ohio Healthcare System and that pharmacy spaces, including temperature and humidity, are maintained in compliance with Office of Construction and Facility Management design guides.
  • Oversees monthly inspection processes of medication storage areas per VHA Directive 1108.07(1) Ensures the security of pharmacy and other medication storage areas, including a monthly review of appropriate access.
  • Coordinates all drug and supply dispensing from CMOP.
  • Implements Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) as required by FDA prior to dispensing or distribution of drugs.
  • Develops and implements processes that meet requirements for the safe handling of hazardous drugs.
  • Ensures processes in place for pharmaceutical waste disposal in accordance with VA, Federal and State requirements.
  • Directs needs assessments; identifies gaps in services and supports strategic planning and program development to meet those needs.
  • Within the local planning process, develops short- and long-term goals and objectives for the provision of Pharmacy operations.
  • Develops and implements appropriate policies, procedures, plans, and professional standards.
  • Develops program review and evaluation to ensure that the access, quality of care, customer service/patient satisfaction, and utilization management/efficiency dimensions of care are continuously evaluated and improved.
  • Ensures that there is compliance with all functions and standards of accreditation entities such as The Joint Commission (TJC).
