This position serves as biologist/mathematical statistician/statistician within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Wildlife Services (WS). The candidate will be highly motivated, innovative and possess a strong background in computational systems development, experience working with wildlife populations and/or diseases and proficient in at least one programming language (e.g., R, Matlab, C++, etc.).
What You'll Do
- →The duties described are for the full-performance level.
- →At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
- →The duties may include, but are not limited to: Develop practical advanced statistical modeling tools for evaluation of management actions, determining optimal management strategies, and improving our understanding of ecological factors.
- →Manage independently or in consultation with supervisor multiple projects related to wildlife disease and damage research and management.
- →Develop and contribute ideas that will establish new research directions within the scope of wildlife disease.
- →Collaborate with Wildlife Services operations to: 1) understand the challenges of wildlife disease, 2) provide evaluation of outcomes, 3) suggest practical guidelines for assessments.
- →Work closely with national program leaders to communicate progress and results which will be formally reported in the form of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.
