About the Role

The OIG's Audit Division is seeking highly motivated recent graduates interested in public service and in helping the Department of Justice­­-through performance audits and other oversight-achieve its mission to uphold the rule of law, keep our country safe, and protect civil rights.

What You'll Do

  • Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Serving as a technical expert for performance and program audits that focus on matters of national security including but not limited to: counterterrorism, counterintelligence, cybersecurity, and impacts on civil rights and civil liberties.
  • For example, exhibits mastery of national security criteria; directs audits that require an integrated analysis of intricate and complex programs, operations, and strategies related to the Department's national security-related activities and Intelligence Community interactions; and builds consensus in messaging national security-related oversight results.
  • Developing individual audit programs and plans for Department organizations, including functional responsibilities, specific project assignments, audit objectives and requirements, references, formats for data display and reports, and special instructions covering contingencies.
  • Provides opinions on the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations.
  • Follows-up on audit recommendations and corrective actions.
  • Develops and presents findings that are critical for annual and long-range planning of department or agency functions and influence agency polices and legislative proposals.
  • Advising the Assistant Inspector General for Audit in the development of national security-related oversight goals, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Serves as a technical expert, recommends and develops strategic approaches for implementing national security-related audit programs or policies in response to emerging or changing issues, such as serving as an authority in the analysis of legislation and how it will impact major programs or missions and the well-being of substantial numbers of people.
  • Leading the development of clear, impactful, accurate, and high-quality audit reports and presenting national security-related audit findings to stakeholders.
  • Using fact-based arguments, persuades persons or groups when there was disagreement on the merits of recommended actions.
  • Maintains consistency in Division oversight, as appropriate, across the national security domain.
  • Communicates OIG strategic and organizational goals, translating these goals into specific functional areas of responsibility, and inspires accountable audit teams to engage in meeting these goals.
  • Represents the OIG and/or the Department at conferences and meetings with other federal agencies, private industry, and professional accounting and audit organizations.
  • Identifying, assessing, and monitoring risk within national security-related programs, functional units, and organizations and conceptualizes well-researched, actionable audit proposals that address high-risk or critical matters expected to benefit from independent oversight.

Requirements

  • All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.
