About the Role
About the Position: This position is located with the Headquarters United Nations Command (UNC), Office of the Deputy Commander at Yokota Air Base, Japan. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. If you are currently serving in a permanent, competitive service appointment in the Federal service, and are selected for this position, the appointment will remove you from the competitive service while you occupy this position.
What You'll Do
- →Serves as the UNC-Rear Attorney-Adviser for the Office of the Judge Advocate, Headquarters, United Nations Command in matters of International Law and U.S.
- →Foreign Relations Law.
- →Advises the command on how U.S. law, customary international law, host nation law, and UNC equities may impact military policy, plans, operations, activities and initiatives of UNC in Japan.
- →Assists in the development and review of draft international agreements for the command.
- →Represents the command and its organizations on various commissions, committees, subcommittees, and other groups to discuss issues involving international law, host-nation relationships, and treaty commitments.
- →Participates in the developing, planning, and leading of negotiations undertaken by the command involving high level host-nation government officials.
- →Tactfully represents the command's position and endeavors to resolve differences involving serious conflicting interests.
- →Provides comprehensive legal services and support on various matters to include, but not limited to, international law, operational law, administrative law, labor and employment law, fiscal law, and claims.
- →Reviews existing, proposed, and amended legislation to identify and enhance the command's authority and scope of operations.
