The primary purpose of this position is to plan and direct all Department of the Air Force (DAF) auditing operations in the broad acquisition, logistics, and financial areas, ensuring compliance with Government Auditing Standards.

What You'll Do

  • As the Assistant Auditor General, you will be responsible for a wide range of mission-critical audit and leadership functions.
  • You will: Plan and direct all DAF auditing operations in the broad acquisition, logistics, and financial areas.
  • Ensure all audit efforts are planned, executed, and reported in accordance with Government Auditing Standards.
  • Develop and implement directorate policies and procedures that carry out and institutionalize Air Force Audit Agency (AFAA) goals, priorities, and values.
  • Analyze Congressional concerns, DoD plans, and DAF programs to establish prioritized audit plans that direct resources to areas of greatest need.
  • Serve as the release authority for draft reports of audit for DAF enterprise-wide audits and ensures reports meet Government Auditing Standards.
  • Act as the Auditor General's liaison officer for AFAA contact with the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and establishes policies for requesting and performing assist audits.
  • Provide oversight and supervision to associate directors executing audit related support in acquisition, logistics, and financial/comptroller areas including Financial Improvement and Audit Remediation (FIAR).
  • Represent the Auditor General as an authoritative expert in inter- and intra-departmental conferences, making decisions on behalf of the Auditor General.
  • Advise the Auditor General in areas of audit management and conducts special analyses and evaluations to solve technical problems.

Requirements

  • Auditor (0511) series requires: A.
  • Degree: accounting, auditing; or a degree including auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting.
  • The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.
  • Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge.
  • The applicant's background must also include one of the following: Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality.
  • Highly Desired: A.
  • A master's or advanced degree in a related professional disciple is highly desired.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
