About the Role
This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Incumbent performs non-professional, quasi-professional, and technical work that supports access to archival holdings and physical and intellectual control over records. The work encompasses the full range of archival support services.
What You'll Do
- →As an Archives Technician, you will: Provide written and oral "first-line" reference assistance and consultation, responding to all forms of inquiry concerning NARA's broad range of archival holdings, in original or surrogate format, by using complex finding aid systems and related archival sources, in both electronic and analog formats.
- →Review information about records prior to making them available to researchers, ensuring that access restrictions are being followed.
- →Participate in the digitization efforts of archival holdings for public access and permanent retention following broad NARA guidance and procedures.
- →Evaluate the physical condition of records in the course of other duties and alerts supervisor or other designated staff to condition problems that limit access or threaten the safety of records.
- →Pull and refile records according to NARA policies and procedures.
- →Monitor research rooms and provide customer service.
- →May carry out other archival duties as assigned.
Requirements

- ✓The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.
- ✓One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

- ✓A probationary or trial period may be required.
- ✓Continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service; the certification will occur no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary/trial period.
- ✓Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- ✓Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
- ✓If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
- ✓Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9.
- ✓Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
- ✓This position MAY require candidates to pass a physical abilities test designed to measure candidates ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
- ✓The test requires carrying 30-50 pound boxes like those found on the job.
