About the Role
The Advanced Medical Support Assistants (AMSAs) assigned to VAMC Tampa, Surgical Service, are responsible for performing a variety of administrative support duties that facilitate the work of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nursing assistants, and other members of the medical facility who provide direct patient care.
What You'll Do
- →The Advanced Medical Support Assistant is expected to present to work in a professional manner in accordance with acceptable workplace behavior and established tours of duty.
- →This position requires flexibility in schedule and assignments.
- →The Advanced Medical Support Assistant must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and backgrounds; makes caring for the Veteran their priority and conducts themselves in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner at all times.
- →Duties include, but are not limited to; Meets deadlines and priorities, assuring the medical and administrative support work assignments are carried out.
- →Performs the receipt, intake, and indexing of health and administrative information.
- →Maintains effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary team, VA medical centers, and other agencies Assist with communications during the inpatient to outpatient discharge; communicate with non-VA medical facilities.
- →Serves as the secondary point of contact if the Lead MSA is not available, for internal and external communications.
- →Interface with personal computer (PC) applications as well as numerous Vista applications.
- →Conduct ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensure accurate and timely scheduling of appointments.
- →Provide guidance to section staff members to include changes in policies and procedures.
- →Resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow.
- →Provide on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met.
- →Report backlogs, difficulties in meeting deadlines and/or securing information from clinicians or the record.
- →Maintain the confidentiality of information obtained to carry out required duties.
Requirements

- ✓Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
