About the Role
Accountant position reports to the Finance Service in the Malcolm Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Responsible for preparing, reviewing and reconciling general ledger. Analyzes accounting data, researching discrepancies and determines root causes to support financial reporting and data integrity. Identifies abnormal balances. Participates in process improvement consistent with governing standards and established Veterans Affairs/Veterans Administration Healthcare procedures.
What You'll Do
- →Include but not limited to: Prepares written instruction, desk guides, or SOP updates for assigned processes.
- →Provides technical input to supervisors or lead staff and business partners.
- →Perform month, quarter and year end close activities.
- →Compile trial balances and working papers.
- →Investigate and resolve abnormal balances, prior period adjustments and clearing/suspense accounts.
- →Assessing the scope and potential materiality of identified issues and selecting corrective actions.
- →Documents reconciliation outcomes, root cause analysis, corrective actions and prepares clear written guidance or instruction for staff and stakeholders.
- →Performs quality assurance review of existing and proposed accounting processes to provide assurances as to financial integrity and conformance to Federal laws and agency regulations and practices.
- →Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
- →Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
