About the Role

This vacancy is for a GS - 1515 - 14, Supervisory Operations Research Analyst located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, PACAREA OPERATIONAL PLANNING PERFORMANCE and ANALYSIS BR in ALAMEDA, California.

What You'll Do

  • You will serve as a Supervisory Operations Research Analyst and be responsible for coordinating the development of the PACAREA Commander's annual theater strategic documents and providing leadership and supervision to assigned staff as the Operational Planning, Performance and Analysis Branch Chief.
  • The incumbent provides technical expertise and applies multidisciplinary scientific and mathematical methods.
  • This includes risk assessment and operational planning to solve operational and management problems and provide alternative solutions to Division Chiefs, PACAREA operational managers, and District and field unit managers as a basis for decision making.
  • Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
  • Typical work assignments include: Analyzing programs, data/inter-relationships, and coordinating the preparation of accurate and reasonable operational plans and proposals.
  • Applying advanced management and organization techniques, systems, procedures and business practices for assessing and making recommendations on organizational systems.
  • Assigning work, setting long-range work plans and schedules; determining goals and objectives and establishing guidelines and performance expectations for staff.
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing, to prepare reports/ scope of work, provide guidance, and resolve problems.
  • Knowledge of budget planning principles and practices and expertise to prepare budget estimates for contracted work.
  • Planning and conducting operations research studies, advising others.
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods/techniques used in analyzing and measuring the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of processes and operations.
