About the Role

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NAVAL ARCHITECT/STRUCTURAL ENGINEER in the ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT, CODE 250 of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

What You'll Do

  • You will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technical advisor for Naval Architecture/Structural issues.
  • You will work with various shop and code program analyst to identify, develop, and implement process improvement initiatives that require knowledge of ships, systems, and processes in the shipyard.
  • You will develop strategic and tactical plans in alignment with division goals and objectives.
  • You will Identify and review indicators ( e.g.
  • Quality Performance System Metrics, Discrepancy Logs, Liaison Action Requests, etc.) to measure and assess the quality of products and services and identify process performance concerns.
  • You will provide technical direction on surface ship/submarine structures in connection with modernization, maintenance, repair, overhaul, conversion, construction, inactivation, recycling of ships and other projects as assigned.
  • You will conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, research, and analysis for the solution of engineering problems or in support of short and long-term engineering projects on assigned ships.
  • You will prepare and direct the development of engineering reports and correspondences related to specific work projects.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
