About the Role

The primary purpose of the Supervisory Mobility Transportation Specialist in the Business Office is to manage all Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) and Beneficiary Travel (BT) program activities, including patient transport, Special Mode Travel (SMT), mileage reimbursement claims, transportation contracts, 911 ambulance claims, inter-facility transfers, and common carrier transportation. The position also supervises and ensures the VTS and BT processes comply with regulatory guidance.

What You'll Do

  • The Supervisory Mobility Transportation Specialist supervises/ensures the Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) and Beneficiary Travel (BT) program processes comply with regulatory guidance, while assuring program effectiveness.
  • Major duties include but are not limited to: Manages the Veterans Transportation Program at the facility which provides safe and reliable transportation to Veterans who require assistance traveling to and from VA health care facilities and authorized non-VA health care appointments within the Medical Center's catchment area.
  • Orchestrates travel for eligible enrollees through mileage reimbursement and contracted travel modes.
  • Plans, develops, evaluates, markets and directs key administrative activities in multiple programs related to transportation system for Veterans, active duty service members, Caregivers and others in metropolitan and rural/remote rural areas, especially those which are disabled, frail, elderly or receiving life dependent treatments (dialysis, chemo therapy, radiation therapy, etc.).
  • Conducts complex and special studies for efficiency and productivity and recommends changes or improvements in work methods and procedures.
  • Identifies resources (staffing, funding, equipment, facilities) required to support varied level of program operations.
  • Manages transportation budget, analyzes organizational budgets, and provides advice and recommendations to Medical Center management, as appropriate, including critical budget areas and all Transportation program matters.
  • Serves as Contracting Officer Representative for all transportation contracts, including common carrier, special mode, ambulance, and air ambulance.
  • Provides consistent and effective outreach to community transit authorities.
  • Coordinates the preparation and submission of recurring monthly, quarterly and annual performance improvement reports, management briefings, summaries, and a wide variety of nonrecurring reports.
  • Assures performance measures and standards issued by various accrediting, regulatory, and higher agency authorities are met.
  • Assures that all transportation staff obtain and maintains appropriate licenses, certifications and training appropriate for each position.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 06:30 am - 3:00 pm or 7:00 am - 4:30 pm.
