About the Role

This position is a Supervisory Anesthesiology Technician located at Richard L. Roudebush VAMC. Individuals at this level plan and direct programs at affiliated medical centers and their satellite outpatient clinics and have full supervisory responsibility for a large staff of nonsupervisory personnel and at least one subordinate team leader or supervisor. These duties include assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff.

What You'll Do

  • The Supervisory Anesthesia Technician (SAT) has considerable latitude and independent judgement.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff assigned to the daily checks to include the process of monitoring equipment and anesthetic machines in the operating suite and out of Operating Room (OR) procedure sites.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or review the staff assigned to include sets-up and balances the pressure transducers for all hemodynamic monitoring activities performed in the operating suite.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff assigned to perform clinical laboratory tests for the unit (i.e., blood gas, activated clotting time and glucose) or perform more difficult equipment repairs.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff assigned to the technician may also participate in large-vessel cannulations (with subsequent monitoring) characteristic of open-heart, transplant and major vascular surgeries.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff assigned to prepare quality control specimens, conducts quality control procedures on equipment and reagents and maintain proper records for quality control reports.
  • Provides the technical supervision for the Anesthesia Service for all inspections including CAP and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO).
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff assigned to maintains all oxygen analyzer components on the portable anesthesia machines.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff assigned to assist nurse anesthetists, house officers and anesthesiologists with the correct use and maintenance of physiologic monitoring equipment such as the intra-arterial blood pressure monitoring transducers, blood analyzer machinery, Swan-Ganz monitoring equipment and all new innovative medical monitoring systems.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff assigned to set-up all transducer monitoring equipment and calibrate the equipment using sterile technique for every procedure requiring such technology.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff assigned to assist anesthesia workroom personnel with preparation of anesthesia carts, stocking, and cleaning of anesthesia equipment.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff assigned to assists in the total preparation for the open heart and other major cases.
  • The Supervisor plans, directs and or reviews the staff for compliance of: Maintain and check the emergency/code box as outlined in the code box checklist.
  • Ensure medications within the box are current for the expiration dates.
