About the Role

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Human Resources Management, located in Washington, D.C. Additional selections may be made for other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

What You'll Do

  • Joining Customs & Border Protection (CBP) will allow you to serve as the Deputy Director of the National Programs Division (NPD) and play a critical leadership role in supporting the Director in managing, developing, and executing key programs vital to CBP's mission of safeguarding the American homeland and facilitating lawful trade and travel.
  • This position starts at a salary of $143,913.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $187,093.00 (GS-14, Step 10).

  • Typical Work assignments include: Serving as Deputy Director, managing the planning, direction, and execution of programs related to retirement and benefits, workers' compensation, and medical and fitness.
  • Providing strategic leadership to ensure program effectiveness, compliance, and alignment with federal mandates and agency objectives.
  • Supervising a team of first-line supervisors and program managers, assigning work, setting priorities, evaluating performance, and providing coaching and mentoring.
  • Resolving employee complaints, participates in recruitment and selection, and recommends disciplinary actions and awards.
  • Leading significant change initiatives and process improvements within the division, collaborating with branch chiefs and senior management.

  • Continued from the Additional Information Section Leadership Training: All newly appointed second level Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training.
  • The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment.
  • The duration of the training will include 4 weeks of in-residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV.
  • Note: This training may be waived if previously completed.
