About the Role

The HPTC mission is dedicated to the safe preservation and maintenance of national parks or partner facilities by demonstrating outstanding leadership, delivering quality preservation services, and developing educational events that fulfill the competency requirements of Service employees in the career fields of Historic Preservations Skills and Crafts, Risk Management, Maintenance and Planning, Design, and Construction.

What You'll Do

  • Provides direct supervision of employees in the wood-crafting section who perform work associated with multi-year, multi-million dollar funded construction projects.
  • Function as an expert in historic preservation performing a variety of technical and consultative services that support HPTC's mission, programs, operations and activities.
  • Drafts, reviews, and approves contract documents.
  • Participates in program planning and development efforts as well as advocating positions on proposals related to HPTC services.
  • Directs and supervises a staff of Exhibits Specialists, Wage Grade Leaders and employees and other HPTC employees.
  • Physical Demands: Work can require the incumbent to climb and work from ladders and scaffolding, and work in confined crawl space areas, underneath structures, or on rooftops that can be over one hundred feet above ground level.
  • The incumbent must walk through water, or over rough, uneven or rocky terrains found at construction sites of outdoor facilities and carry heavy objects or supplies (over 50 lbs.) in order to them to the job site.
  • There are considerable physical exertion related actions such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of various sized, weights and shapes.
  • Work requires regular and continuous surveillance of construction operations in the field.
  • Incumbent is required to perform trade work on historic preservation projects.
  • Working Conditions: The work is generally performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, space, heating and ventilation yet may require periods of field work and exposure to all types of outdoor weather conditions, working with heights, confined spaces and noisy work environments.

Requirements

  • Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • Driver License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
  • You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • Work Schedule: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • Travel: You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 15 nights per month.
  • You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Ability to Lift: You may be required to lift 50 pounds in the performance of duties.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
