About the Role

This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), in the Transmission Infrastructure Development Planning (TPPC) organization, Transmission Planning (TPP), System Planning (TP), Transmission Services (T). Lead engineers planning the future of the Northwest power grid. You will guide technical studies and strategies to ensure our transmission system remains reliable and efficient for decades, strengthening the grid to meet the region's complex energy demands.

What You'll Do

  • Shape the Future of Energy: Lead a Premier Engineering Team at BPA At the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), our mission is to provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy to the Pacific Northwest.
  • As a Supervisory Electrical Engineer, you won't just be managing a team; you'll be at the forefront of shaping the region's energy future for decades to come.
  • This is your opportunity to apply deep technical expertise to solve complex challenges and guide the evolution of one of the nation's most critical power systems.
  • This position is supervisor of TPPC, Infrastructure Development Planning, responsible for Load Interconnection and project development.
  • Major emphasis on the overall Line and Load Interconnection Request (LLIR) study product, including ensuring studies are executed with high quality and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure product is well coordinated with other BPA departments, including customer service, account executives, and operations.
  • Provide guidance to TPPC technical lead to ensure both high quality and continuous improvement of the LLIR study product and process.
  • Major emphasis on overall project development includes ensuring high quality project requirement diagrams, as well as working with other BPA departments to ensure an efficient and effective project initiation process for expansion projects and applicable sustain projects.
  • This position works across a matrix organization.
  • Other groups in the matrix organization include TPPA, Transmission Reliability Planning, which focuses on NERC, WECC, and BPA planning standards requirements, TPPB, Transmission Services Planning, which focuses on commercial planning including BPA's Grid Access Transformation effort, and TPPD, Transmission Capabilities Planning, which focuses on Generator Interconnection.
  • Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of highly skilled electrical engineers, fostering their professional growth while guiding them to achieve critical organizational goals and solve complex engineering problems.
  • Innovation and Grid Modernization: Champion the integration of cutting-edge, non-wire solutions-including demand response, distributed energy resources, and energy conservation-to enhance grid efficiency and performance.
  • Industry Leadership and Representation: Represent BPA as a subject matter expert in influential industry groups such as NERC, WECC, and EPRI, particularly in the highly dynamic and evolving area of large load integration.
  • Advanced System Analysis: Direct sophisticated power system simulations and analytical studies to diagnose and resolve complex issues related to power flow, voltage stability, and transient stability on a large-scale power system.

  • After employment, this position may be subject to periodic physical examinations, as prescribed by competent medical authority and at BPA expense, if exposed to health hazards.
  • A preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work.
  • Current Federal employees or other individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check.
