About the Role

The Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) serves as Regional Program Manager (VISN 23 Diagnostics ICC) and provides supervisory duties for the VA Midwest Health Care Network (VISN 23) laboratory and radiology members including shared responsibility for managing and supervising all phases of laboratory service operations in high complexity laboratories with the VISN 23 Director of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (PLMS).

What You'll Do

  • Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Knowledge of concepts, principles, and methodologies of a major clinical laboratory program and operations to assess program effectiveness and provide authoritative guidance, instruction, assistance and advise for operations, personnel, and management.
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations and relationships to the organization.
  • Skill in administrative management such as budgeting, contracting, procurement, and property management.
  • Ability to delineate and interpret accreditation standards and regulatory requirements to oversee laboratory programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and upper management in a medical center, health care setting, and higher-level managers in regional or national offices.
  • Ability to plan and execute short- and long-range programs.
  • Ability to provide advisory, planning, and surveillance services to clinicians, laboratory directors, and supervisor specific functions, programs or problems that are particularly difficult, widespread, or persistent.
  • Ability to solve complex problems involving unique or controversial aspects of laboratory management.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize resource materials and to develop new materials when needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse group of professional staff and management officials who are often at the highest management levels.
  • Ability to develop and recommend new or revised policies that are consistent with organizational goals and objectives.

Requirements
