About the Role

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Enterprise Data and Analytics, Survey Management & Analytics Group (SMAG). As a Statistician (Survey), GS-1530-13, you will apply advanced survey methodology and statistical principles to evaluate survey design features, assess data quality, produce analytic products and provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders.

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate and improve survey design and content, including contributing to questionnaire development, assessing sampling and estimation approaches, and recommending changes to enhance data quality and analytic usefulness.
  • Review and assess complex survey data and processing procedures, including editing, imputation, and longitudinal consistency checks, to identify data quality issues and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and apply statistical methods to produce and validate estimates from complex, large-scale household survey data, ensuring results are accurate, reliable, and appropriate for analysis and reporting.
  • Prepare analytic products, technical documentation, and presentations, and communicate survey methods and findings to technical and non-technical audiences while providing consultation and collaborating with contractors, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION) OR Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
  • The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
