About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • The psychologist for whom this functional statement applies is a member of the Primary Care Mental Health Integration Program assigned to provide Collaborative Care at the Kansas City VA Medical Center (KCVA), Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOCs), or Honor Annex.
  • Incumbent provides the full range of psychological services as an integral member of the co-located primary care integration team, including psychological assessment, brief individual psychotherapy, health oriented behavioral groups, and assisting the team in the clinical management of their patients by providing psychological/behavioral health expertise to the medical staff.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to: Clinical Duties: Provides psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders for primary care providers.
  • Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
  • Provides short-term, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy using in-person and tele-mental healthcare modalities (VVC, CVT, phone).
  • Provides consultation to professional staff within KCVA and to community providers regarding clinical assessment findings and treatment plans.
  • Functions independently as a member of KCVA with full clinical privileges, assuming complete professional responsibility for clinical assessment findings, patient-care decisions, and documentation.
  • Provides comprehensive professional care documentation in the patient record system while adhering to timeliness standards.
  • Serves as an integral member of the primary care team to provide accessible, integrated, biopsychosocial-informed health care services.
  • Uses evidence-based practice and assists the team in using VHA/DoD clinical practice guidelines (e.g., treatment of MDD).
  • Facilitates referrals to specialty Mental Health services when clinically indicated.
  • Administrative Duties: Assists the PC-MHI Program Manager and Primary Care leadership in designing, developing, and implementing clinical programs.
  • Adheres to operational policies and procedures established by the Mental Health Chief.
  • Assists the PC-MHI Program Manager and Primary Care leadership in program evaluation and data-driven quality-improvement projects.
