About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply

What You'll Do

  • Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The BHIP Staff Psychologist provides comprehensive outpatient behavioral health services-including evaluation, assessment, and treatment-to Veterans, their families, and interdisciplinary teams within the Charlie Dowd VA Clinic coverage area.
  • Responsibilities include crisis intervention, identification of psychosocial and psychiatric needs, and management of a wide range of mental health disorders (e.g., SMI, PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance use).
  • The incumbent coordinates care, ensures safety for high-risk patients, and facilitates referrals to inpatient and specialty programs.
  • Works with patients and families who are experiencing emotional, medical, and social problems utilizing individual, group, and family psychotherapy skills.
  • Assesses the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members, and to formulate and implement a treatment plan, identifying the patient's problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and assistance needed.
  • Provides specialized treatment of complex physical and mental illness.
  • Incorporates complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges.
  • Determines priority for services and provide specialized treatment services.
  • Serves as subject matter expert in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations.
  • Provides consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients treated in the specialty area, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise and role modeling effective psychology practice skills.
  • Will teach and mentor staff and students in the specialty area of practice and to provide supervision for licensure or for specialty certifications.
