About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

What You'll Do

  • The staff psychologist is assigned to the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) program within the Mental Health service line responsible for diagnosing mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders.
  • Among the modalities provided are individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as interdisciplinary collaboration to support comprehensive Veteran mental health care.
  • They consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
  • Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.
  • Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation.
  • Staff psychologists may be required to support the psychology internship through either participation in seminars or direct supervision of interns.
  • Additional duties include, but are not limited to: Provide a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care.
  • Provides initial behavioral assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, treatment planning, consultation/referral, and crisis intervention for veterans in the outpatient mental health clinic.
  • Reviews Outpatient BHIP Psychology consults for Veteran-identified concerns and goals; receive, address and track data within prescribed time limits to appropriately address consults.
  • When relevant, communicates with referring providers, receiving providers, and/or Veterans to ensure timely and thorough collaboration in addressing Veteran mental health concerns.
  • May provide clinical supervision to various disciplines and levels of training, including trainees seeking licensure in psychology.
  • Provides leadership guidance and consultation to staff of units to which assigned.
  • Serves as a consultant to other medical center staff and trainees and assists in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding their patients.
  • Effectively collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to support comprehensive Veteran mental health care.
