About the Role
The purpose of the School Age Care (SAC) Director position is to administer a developmentally appropriate program for children of eligible patrons within Navy Child and Youth Programs(CYP). The SAC Director ensures compliance with Department of War (DoW), Department of the Navy (DON), and Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) standards while delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate care and programming for children ages 5-12, typically from kindergarten through 6th grade.
What You'll Do
- →Duties include but are not limited to: Program Operations Coordinates daily operations of the SAC program to ensure activities are developmentally appropriate, safe, and aligned with Navy CYP standards.
- →Provides guidance and accountability for SAC staff during operating hours, modeling professional conduct and best practices in youth development.
- →Coordinates with Training and Curriculum (T&C) Specialists to implement age-appropriate curriculum and reinforce intended learning outcomes.
- →Provides day-to-day supervisory oversight of SAC staff, ensuring accountability professional conduct, and adherence to Navy CYP standards.
- →Supports implementation of individualized behavior and inclusion support plans in collaboration with T&C Specialists and parents, monitoring staff application of strategies to support children with special needs or behavioral challenges.
- →Participates in emergency preparedness drills, ensures staff are trained in response procedures, and monitors adherence to health and safety regulations, including sanitation and illness reporting protocols.
- →Develops, administers and evaluates an ongoing program of individual and group developmental and educational activities for staff implementation and execution.
- →Works collaboratively with other CYP Directors in establishing and implementing combined Parent Involvement Board (PIB) that includes parents and representatives from the CDC, Child and Youth Education Services (CYES), Family Child Care (FCC), School Age Care (SAC), and Youth Program (as applicable to each installation).
- →Training Develops, coordinates, and delivers a comprehensive training program that is designed to expand the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies of individuals assigned to work with children and youth in Navy CYP, ensuring appropriateness for the age group(s)/program area that the learner is assigned.
- →Arranges for subject matter experts to conduct/support specialized training, as needed.
- →Identifies ongoing training needs by evaluating individual's strengths and challenges and tailors training plans and content to meet the needs of learners.
- →Provides training to CYP employees so they can ensure classroom and activity area compliance with fire, safety, and sanitation rules and regulation.
- →Maintains training records and individual development plans.
- →Prepares training status reports and recommendations to supervisors and notifies CYP Directors of employees' and providers' training status and performance.
Requirements
- ✓A bachelor's degree related to youth programs, such as youth recreation, physical education, elementary education, secondary education, home economics with an emphasis in human development, youth development, or related field of study and two years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth.
- ✓OR A combination of education and experience; education must include courses in a child-related field and total minimum of 24 higher level semester hours.
- ✓In addition, two years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth is required.
