About the Role

You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Manager with the Bureau of Reclamation. The Safety and Occupational Health Manager is responsible for inspecting all phases of construction at project sites throughout the Region for observance of safety standards, codes and practices.

What You'll Do

  • Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Plans and carries out the Safety Program for the Regional Construction Office.
  • Construction program pertains to complex construction operations in the construction, modification, and rehabilitation of a wide range of engineering projects (e.g., canals, pipelines, diversion dams, pumping facilities, hydroelectric generation plants, storage dam, reservoirs, fish and wildlife structures, concrete structures and buildings).
  • Inspects all phases of construction at project sites and construction field offices throughout the Region for observance of safety standards, codes and practices.
  • Advises field supervisors and personnel engaged in daily inspection of construction activities on safety operations and procedures.
  • Enforces safe operating practices on both government-owned and contractor's equipment to avoid hazardous conditions.
  • Studies construction plans/specifications to assure projects can be constructed in accordance with the Reclamation Safety and Health Standards and other safety regulations.
  • Recommends changes for protective measures.
  • Attends pre-bidding, preconstruction, and partnering meetings.
  • Reviews contractor's safety programs and advises on adequacy and acceptability.
  • Recommends additional safety features for equipment/field operations.
  • Investigates, analyses and reports in detail the cause of all accidents involving contractors or Reclamation personnel and/or vehicles.
  • Collects, records and prepares regular and special reports on safety data, etc.
  • Initiates and conducts safety training courses.
  • Assists supervisors in establishing annual safety plans and goals.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S.
  • Citizen or National.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
