About the Role
The Nurse Recruiter leads and supports the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of a high-performing nursing workforce committed to exceptional Veteran care. Using clinical expertise, workforce data, and collaborative partnerships, the incumbent identifies qualified candidates, improves candidate experience, develops staffing strategies, and advances a diverse, engaged, and sustainable nursing workforce.
What You'll Do
- →Major Duties: Leads or supports nursing recruitment, onboarding, and retention activities to meet facility workforce needs and advance the mission of caring for Veterans.
- →Applies professional nursing knowledge, clinical judgment, and the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate recruitment and retention strategies.
- →Identifies, screens, and assesses nursing candidates to determine alignment of their education, experience, competencies, and qualifications with position requirements.
- →Provides individualized candidate guidance and maintains engagement throughout recruitment and onboarding to promote a positive, efficient candidate experience.
- →Develops and sustains candidate pipelines through partnerships with nursing leadership, Human Resources, colleges, universities, professional associations, and other stakeholders.
- →Coordinates with Nurse Managers and nursing leadership to identify staffing priorities, forecast workforce needs, and develop targeted retention strategies.
- →Collects, maintains, analyzes, and reports recruitment and retention data; identifies trends, variances, barriers, and opportunities for improvement.
- →Develops recommendations for workforce strategies, process improvements, resource utilization, and evidence-based recruitment and retention initiatives.
- →Promotes equitable, ethical, and inclusive recruitment practices consistent with applicable policies, Equal Employment Opportunity principles, and professional nursing standards.
- →Serves as a consultant and collaborative resource to nursing leaders, HR staff, and interdisciplinary partners; at higher levels, provides strategic workforce-planning advice and leads broad program improvements.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation/examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
