About the Role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
What You'll Do
- →VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards This Registered Nurse (RN) position is in Mental Health services at the Providence VA Medical Center, located at the Providence, RI location.
- →This position is a full-time position at 40 hours per week.
- →The Mental Health Outpatient RN delivers safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care to Veterans receiving psychiatric and behavioral health services in an outpatient setting.
- →This role supports comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, medication management, crisis intervention, and care coordination to foster recovery, independence, and improved mental health outcomes.
- →Duties include, but not limited to: Participates in warm hand-off, care coordination, liaising with Inpatient MH Units to facilitate continuity of care, and responds to psychiatric and medical emergencies as directed.
- →Documents nursing triage assessments, risk screens, clinical reminders, and patient plan of care in accordance with facility policy.
- →Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient.
- →Provides patient centered and recovery-oriented care and maintains self-awareness while caring for patients living with MH conditions. reports and assists and/or directs safety concern resolution and collaborates with program leadership to help improve patient and program outcomes; and directs team response to psychiatric and medical emergencies.
- →Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care.
- →Provides peers with formal or informal constructive feedback for improvement.
- →Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care.
- →Serves as the primary contact for Veterans.
- →Provides direct patient care, including medication administration, injections, health teaching, and symptom management for Veterans engaged in Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) services.
- →Participates as an integral member of the interdisciplinary BHIP team collaborating with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other providers in treatment planning and ongoing evaluation.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment medical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
