About the Role
The Surgical Care Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based specialty care to patients in the clinical setting. This RN provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education, & coaching on wellness, disease prevention and chronic care management to veterans in the surgical services specialties including, but not limited to: general surgery, ophthalmology, optometry, orthopedics, podiatry, thoracic, urology, and vascular areas.
What You'll Do
- →Major duties include but are not limited to: Integrating specialty care knowledge, skills abilities, and judgement and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex outpatient situations.
- →Demonstrating competence in specialty care practices and decision-making, deliberate planning and critical thinking skills.
- →Monitoring metrics associated with the clinic including own nursing workload.
- →Process improvement activities as a stakeholder.
- →Following all written policies and procedures of the agency, the facility, service line, and department.
- →Administering medication and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
- →Influencing outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
- →Providing competent, evidence-based specialty care to patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the clinic setting.
- →Independently plans and delivers technically competent care to patients with complex needs in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice Provides and directs others in Veteran/patient driven care that optimizes the patient's experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients.
- →Demonstrates knowledge over a wide range of job responsibilities, effectively communicating with individuals and groups to build a strong sense of teamwork and purpose.
- →Shares knowledge and learning opportunities that enhance current nursing practice for self and others.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
