About the Role
This position is located in the Urology Clinic at the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC Indianapolis, IN within the Nursing, Perioperative Specialty Clinic Service.
What You'll Do
- →Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties: The Urology Registered Nurses provide advanced, procedure-based care within the outpatient setting.
- →Core responsibilities include performing urodynamics, assisting with TRUS biopsies, completing catheter exchanges, conducting voiding trials, supporting cystoscopies, administering bladder cancer treatments, providing vasectomy education, teaching clean intermittent catheterization (CIC), administering Eligard injections, and managing clinical triage through patient calls and secure messages.
- →Urology RNs also assist providers during in-clinic procedures and collaborate with Inpatient teams to support training on suprapubic catheter exchanges and other specialized urologic needs.
- →This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.
- →Collaborates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and/or guidelines.
- →Demonstrates performance and leadership that is broad enough to improve the care for specialty care outpatients.
- →Provides peers with formal or informal constructive feedback for improvement.
- →Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality specialty nursing care.
- →Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of health care professionals.
- →Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations.
- →Responsible for the documented outcomes at the specialty care program or service level.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
