About the Role
The New York Harbor VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a full-time Registered Nurse - Nursing Officer of the Day at the St. Albans VA Medical Center. The ideal Registered Nurse applicant will be an expert in the delivery of patient care and will serve as the facility's nursing expert at all hours (Days, Nights, Evenings, Weekends, and Holidays) to provide and facilitate emergency medical support throughout the facility.
What You'll Do
- →The Registered Nurse - Nursing Officer of the Day executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, creative approaches to the management of complex patient care, and demonstrates the ability to lead and organize the delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice (including access to care) and discharge planning.
- →He/she will provide programmatic outcomes to nursing leadership to assist with improving organizational processes and the delivery of patient care to coordinate safe, efficient, and effective patient care throughout all areas of the facility.
- →The Registered Nurse - Nursing Officer of the Day is an expert in the delivery of patient care and serves as the facility nursing expert at all hours to support, provide and facilitate emergency medical support throughout the facility.
- →He/she assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for managing and directing employees, staffing units, and allocating resources as necessary during weekends, holidays, and after-hours tours during the absence of nursing management/leadership.
- →The incumbent is responsible for rounding and is a consultant to providers and collaborates with the Administrative Officer of the Day (and other members of the interdisciplinary team as needed) for decisions related to on-going patient care and actions taken in emergency situations and disasters.
- →The incumbent will guide, develop, and support staff from a leadership perspective using professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities, and will demonstrate expertise in leadership at the systems level that is sustainable, experienced, and involves creative approaches to management of complex situations.

Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.

- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical evaluation.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
