What You'll Do
- →The Registered Nurse (RN) Oncology / Hematology / Infusion possesses foundational expertise, demonstrating introductory proficiency in delivering both direct and indirect nursing care to oncology patients and their families.
- →They collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired patient outcomes.
- →Completes basic physiological assessments and completes documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance to established policies and procedures.
- →Monitors, tracks/tends, and reports ongoing care needs and outcomes to the interdisciplinary team.
- →Seeks guidance on how to improve care provided to patients and families.
- →They provide a safe working environment while administering, handling, and disposing of antineoplastic drugs and medical waste.
- →The focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction.
- →They seek guidance on how to improve care to patients and families.
- →Will develop a knowledge base of oncology/hematology diseases and treatments.
- →Will be able to recognize oncologic and hematologic emergencies.
- →Will be able to independently initiate intravenous and central line access.
- →They will strive toward achieving adequate oncology service hours needed to obtain the ONS chemotherapy-biotherapy certification.
- →Duties include but not limited to: Work in unison with the staff and provider's in promoting patient centered culture that assures that quality health care services are provided to the veterans promptly, safely, courteously, and compassionately and that their significantly others and/or caregivers are appropriately involved.
- →Is integrally involved in activities, goals, and functionality of the Specialty Care Team.
Requirements
- ✓Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- ✓All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- ✓Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- ✓Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- ✓Subject to background/security investigation.
- ✓Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- ✓Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
- ✓Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
- ✓Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
- ✓Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- ✓You may be required to serve a probationary period.
