About the Role

The Gynecology, Maternity and Fertility Care Coordinator Registered Nurse serves as a clinical care manager and patient advocate for Veterans receiving gynecology, maternity, reproductive, infertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and newborn-related healthcare services. The RN coordinates care across VA and community providers, ensuring Veterans receive timely, high-quality, patient-centered services while maintaining continuity of care throughout the reproductive health journey.

What You'll Do

  • The coordinator provides education, case management, care coordination, and resource navigation while promoting positive maternal and infant health outcomes.
  • This position requires flexibility, additional duties as assigned to support women's clinic/health such as onsite clinic coverage, triage, mammography, gynecology, and primary care (PACT) coverage/support/care coordination.
  • Duties and Responsibilities include: Coordinate comprehensive gynecology, maternity, reproductive, and fertility care services for Veterans receiving care through VA and community providers.
  • Serve as the primary clinical point of contact for Veterans throughout preconception, infertility treatment, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify healthcare needs, psychosocial concerns, and potential barriers to care.
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments to identify physical, emotional, psychosocial, and educational needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans to promote positive maternal and infant outcomes.
  • Coordinate referrals, authorizations, consultations, and appointments for obstetric, gynecologic, fertility, and specialty healthcare services.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including primary care providers, obstetricians, gynecologists, fertility specialists, social workers, mental health providers, and community care partners.
  • Monitor Veterans throughout pregnancy to ensure timely prenatal care, recommended screenings, and appropriate follow-up services.
  • Provide patient education regarding fertility treatment options, reproductive health, prenatal care, childbirth preparation, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
  • Track high-risk pregnancies and coordinate interventions to address medical, behavioral health, or social determinants of health concerns.
  • Facilitate access to VA benefits, maternity care coordination programs, lactation support services, and community resources.
  • Assess and address barriers to care, including transportation, housing instability, financial concerns, and access to healthcare services.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
