About the Role

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in daily operations, elevates team performance, ensures adherence to clinical standards, and coordinates safe, effective patient care. As a clinical expert, the ANM oversees competent, evidence-based training, and evaluates effectiveness for all hemodialysis staff. This role supports quality initiatives, fosters collaboration, and helps maintain a positive, growth-focused. Position requires experience in Hemodialysis & Education.

What You'll Do

  • The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) serves as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor, providing strong, effective leadership to the nursing team.
  • In this multifaceted role, the ANM promotes a culture of clinical excellence, supports staff development, and upholds high standards of patient care.
  • The ANM collaborates closely with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers to care, streamline workflows, and ensure that clinical practices align with organizational priorities and regulatory requirements.
  • By leveraging current evidence, the ANM leads the implementation of innovative, evidence-based programs and processes that improve patient outcomes, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen the overall patient experience.
  • The Supervisory ANM is also responsible for providing competent, evidence-based education to all hemodialysis staff.
  • Understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training.
  • Performs learning needs assessments, develops educational training for clinical staff within the section.
  • Assists with the orientation of new employees, evaluation of their progress in the orientation process, and development and implementation of a learning plan for improving identified deficiencies.
  • As an educator and mentor, the ANM guides staff in developing their clinical skills and critical thinking abilities, fosters professional growth, and helps maintain a supportive and inclusive work environment.
  • Through consistent visibility, engagement, and accountability, the ANM reinforces best practices, promotes teamwork, and ensures that care delivery is safe, efficient, and patient-centered.
  • Major duties and responsibilities include: Engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth.
  • Adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.
  • Equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
