About the Role

First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level. Salary Range:GS-05: $40,736 (Step 1) to $52,957 (Step 10) per year - Salary Table 2026-RUS

What You'll Do

  • Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.
  • Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S.
  • Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds.
  • Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.).
  • Assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings.
  • Communicate audit results to supervisor.
  • Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others.
  • Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors.
  • Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies as needed.
  • Carrying out a wide variety of clerical and technical assignments that involve the application of fee program knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices of fee collection.

Requirements

  • Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally.
  • You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • This position is subject to drug testing due to assisting during emergency operations and medical emergencies on passenger ferry boat.
  • This position must be certified in Standard First Aid (or higher) and AED within 6 months of entrance on duty.
