This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Branch; CNRSW San Diego, CA. Incumbent assists in supporting the mission of military readiness and resiliency through the delivery of performance and health programs that optimize physical, mental, and social well-being. Assists in conducting structured fitness and recreation activities, orientating participants to safe performance practices, and supporting health and human performance initiatives.

- →Duties include but are not limited to: Leads structured group activities, recreation, and performance related activities.
- →Provides fitness orientations on proper movement mechanics and safe equipment use.
- →Assists in delivering programs that promote resilience, recovery, and overall well-being.
- →Works with patrons to achieve fitness and wellness goals.
- →Uses practical knowledge of fundamental fitness techniques and procedures in providing fitness guidance.
- →Develops and implements standard fitness plans to meet the individual needs of patrons.
- →Observes patron fitness movements through screening processes to provide guidance on injury prevention.
- →Provides information and assessments of patron progress to higher graded specialist concerning the participation, progress, behavior, and/or physical reactions of patrons assigned.
- →Suggests alternative or modified exercises or movements.
- →Ensures patron completes Physical Activity Risk Factor Questionnaire (PARF-Q), reviews and suggests proper way forward.
- →Establishes/reviews the schedule of events, conducts tours, sets-up/prepares gymnasiums/facilities/playing fields prior to scheduled start time for events (e.g., lap swim, lifeguard training, exercise programs, races, pool parties).
- →Coordinates recurring fitness and recreation events, ensuring adherence to safety standards.
Requirements
- ✓In order to meet the minimum qualification requirement for the 0189 Recreation Assistant series, a qualified candidate must possess one of the following: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study related to recreation or physical education.
- ✓At least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education.
- ✓At least 1 year of specialized experience assisting in conducting structured fitness and recreation activities.
- ✓An equivalent combination of education and specialized experience.
- ✓Degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.
- ✓Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- ✓Proof of education MUST be submitted at time of application for consideration.
