About the Role

You will serve as a Range Technician (Seasonal) Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. These positions may be filled for a seasonal period, up to 1039 or 1560 hours, but can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: October 2026. Open to the first 200 applicants or until 07/17/2026 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.

What You'll Do

  • National Park Service is recruiting for Temporary seasonal positions not to exceed 1039 or 1560 hours work in a service year.
  • Dates of employment will vary between sites depending on funding, weather conditions, and visitation.
  • Within regulatory limitations, the length of initial appointment may be shortened or extended depending upon work availability and funding.
  • Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Knowledge and Understanding of the concepts and principles of botany.
  • Ability to identify plant species.
  • Performs invasive plant management including: invasive plant treatments via herbicide application using backpack sprayers, utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), and trucks with mounted spray equipment; invasive plant removal by mechanical means; record keeping of invasive plant treatment data and field notes; GPS and GIS data collection and management.
  • May perform Integrated Pest Management (IPM) assignments.
  • Operates a variety of equipment to carry out range management projects such as fence and irrigation repair, and vegetation management including tractors, truck and trailer, hand and power tools, utility terrain vehicles, trucks with mounted spray equipment, and backpack sprayers.
  • Ability to use GPS units and to build data layers in ArcGIS.
  • Assists with rangeland restoration and revegetation projects including drill seeding, invasive plant management, monitoring and mapping.

Requirements

  • Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • Pay will vary based on grade level and/or duty location for which you're selected.
  • First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.
  • Government housing MAY be available.
  • You are required to wear a uniform and comply with the uniform standards.
  • A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority.
  • Occasional travel with up to 14 days in certain months.
