About the Role

The position is located in the Office of Public and Congressional Affairs (IO/PCA), Bureau of International Organization Affairs (IO). The position serves as a Public Affairs Specialist responsible for performing developmental Public Affairs (PA), media relations, stakeholder outreach, and digital communications assignments that support US Government (USG) multilateral foreign policy objectives.

What You'll Do

  • At the GS-09 & GS-11 level, the incumbent performs duties as outlined below; however, the scope and complexity of assignments are of less responsibility and independence.
  • Serves as the principal action officer for planning, developing, coordinating, and executing media relations.
  • Researches, analyzes, synthesizes, and translates complex foreign policy developments, diplomatic initiatives, media reporting, and emerging issues to ensure communications products accurately reflect approved Department policies.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements PA and stakeholder outreach initiatives that promote understanding of USG multilateral foreign policy priorities, diplomatic objectives, and Bureau programs.
  • Coordinates Bureau digital communications activities by developing content calendars, drafting and coordinating social media products, monitoring emerging digital communications trends, and identifying opportunities to enhance audience engagement.

  • The percentage of specialized work experience (for example, 6 months equals 50%) and the percentage of graduate study (for example, 9 graduate hours for a GS-07 equals 50% where 18 graduate hours constitute a full time year) must total at least 100%.
  • Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
