About the Role
The Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse is assigned to the VA Portland Health Care System (VHAPORHCS) Prevention of Amputations in Veterans Everywhere (PAVE) unit, under Operative Care Division functions as a team member under the guidance of the Outpatient Procedural Services Nurse Manager.
What You'll Do
- →The LPN GS-7 is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice.
- →Possesses the knowledge and skills to carry out more specialized patient care activities.
- →The duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Knowledgeable of program regulations and performs objectives of the nursing program.
- →Promotes and demonstrates nursing concepts in the Medical Center.
- →Works in collaboration with the Registered Nurse (RN), and or Health Care Provider (HCP).
- →Demonstrates the ability to work independently without the need for readily available supervision and communicates effectively with the Veteran, families, caregivers, professionals, and other supportive staff.
- →LPN/LVN works with interdisciplinary team members and demonstrates technical proficiency in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing wound and foot care to patient populations at all complexity levels and care settings while requiring minimal supervision.
- →Provides effective education to patients and/or family members in relation to common disease processes, medication, and /or prescribed treatment regimes.
- →Works with the RN and/or Licensed Independent Practitioner to appropriately orient/train less experienced LPNs/LVNs and/or Nursing Assistants (NAs)/Health Technicians (HTs) in relation to acceptable standards of practice in promoting optimal patient care delivery.
- →Under the supervision of an RN and/or MD/ DO the GS-7 LPN/LVN successfully and consistently demonstrates the exercise of independent technical judgment (without the need for readily available supervision), as well as a comprehensive and thorough working knowledge of the most complex or difficult practices and procedures.
- →Such individuals may also serve as leaders or co-leaders in a nursing unit or for a specifically identified group of patients.
- →PAVE/Wound GS-7 LPN perform complex assessments, and interventions prescribed by the Licensed Independent practitioner which include but are not limited to complex dressing changes, wraps, wound vac change application, qoustic wound therapy, and total contact casting.
- →The PAVE/Wound clinic provides complex outpatient care to wounds, podiatry, PAVE and all surgical specialties.
- →The PAVE LPN provides clinical oversight and leadership for the day-to-day operations of the PAVE nursing staff and serves as an expert in the clinical care skills and coordination of the operations of multiple clinics.
