About the Role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

What You'll Do

  • **This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until 08/03/2026 The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 06/15/2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks.
  • Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. **VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

  • The incumbent provides patient care directly and/or through the clinical oversite of trainees to include residents, fellows and/or medical students in the home setting.
  • In addition to their role as clinician, the HBPC physician will have administrative responsibilities for participation in HBPC development and programs, as well as an effective interface with the HBPC staff.
  • The HBPC Physician will participate fully in all accreditation processes, reviews and site visits.
  • This position encompasses the duties of clinical, administrative, teaching, research and other duties as assigned within the Geriatrics and Extended Care service line which includes a Home-Based Primary Care, Geriatric Evaluation Clinic, and Hospice and Palliative Care.
  • The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Participates fully in all accreditation processes, reviews and site visits.
  • Drives to patients homes.
  • Position requires driving up to 25% of the time.
  • Provides direct patient in patients homes care which includes assessments, diagnosis, treatment and outcome measures of healthcare problems.
  • This includes the following: initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens, performing histories and physicals, ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies, initiating consults and referrals, and prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy, VA formulary, Federal & state regulations and scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
  • Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).
  • Effective May 7, 2025, driver's licenses or state-issued identification cards that are not REAL ID compliant cannot be utilized as an acceptable form of identification for employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
